I was lost in a dark cloud of confusion. Suddenly a gleam of light struck me with an opportunity. I grabbed the opportunity and made the most out of it. My confidence grew as I figured out who I really was, and eventually found my path to success. At the beginning of the year, I was naive and I didn't want to learn. I signed up for a Class called "Multimedia". I learned many life lessons in this class, including how to be responsible, how to be able to move forward, and how to overcome my previous mistakes. The main thing I learned was how to say I was sorry for my mistakes, and admit when I am wrong. I soon put my mistakes aside and decided to succeed and further my education. With my Confidence growing, I entered an essay contest to attempt to win a trip to Washington D.C. With a lot of hard work and determination, I made the best essay of my life. This essay won me a trip to Washington D.C. I have included my essay below and I hope you enjoy it.
Into The Clouds
As a poor Mexican teenage boy from west Texas, my future was limited, and I was likely going to be working on the oil rigs for the rest of my life. This meant long, dirty, exhausting, deadly hours. Needing to change my future I looked up for an answer. There it was, a 300 foot answer that changed my life forever. I had just seen my first wind turbine. The Texas’ rig life is not full of joy. On the rig floor there are metal chains flying and metal pipe being moved constantly and motors roaring, soon impairing your hearing. A day of work at the rigs can be compared to playing Russian Roulette with your life. Wind energy opens new doors. The Wind Industry gives an enormous amount of opportunity and hope to this generation of Texans who refuse to settle for life on the rigs. Wind Energy will be around as long as there is wind. Wind is a very reliable source of energy, and we must take advantage of the technology to build a cleaner and better way of life. Wind energy creates spectacular career opportunities. Our dependence on foreign oil is leading to a catastrophic crash in our economy that America hasn’t seen for 80 years. We need to rethink, regroup, and rebuild. We need to say “We refuse to be addicted to foreign oil, we demand energy independence!” Presently, we import 70% of our oil, which means we are sending $ 475 billion to foreign countries each year. Many of these countries are not our friends, so we might as well be buying weapons for our enemies. Texas has the most turbines in the country, fueling the change from the dark, heavy, polluting clouds of smoke to good natural green energy. An advantage of green wind energy is we already have the resources, and we just need to implement them. Geographical scientists believe that earth is warming up, thus in order to solve earth’s problem we who destroyed will need to repair and soon switch to nothing but pure green energy. Perhaps the greatest advantage with Windmill turbines is that the profit that turbines create never leaves the country, creating better education, careers, and quality of life. Within days of my encounter with that massive giant in the sky, I would find the answer that would change my life forever. I did not hesitate. I quickly filled out every necessary application in order to enroll in the Wind Turbine Technologist program at Texas State Technical College in Sweetwater, Texas. I have been accepted, and I will start in the fall. I have overcome many obstacles in my life. Always trying, and soon succeeding . I have found a path to a better future. You will not find me amongst the snakes and scorpions. Look up and see me working amongst the clouds, And Soaring with the Eagle. |
